Questions for Christians

1h 43m

The talk is a stack of questions about Yhwh, the snake, the law, and the Father. Running through them is one answer: Yhwh and the devil are the same person, and Jesus never called Yhwh His Father.

Summary

He says most of what he was taught as a new Christian was not true, and that a question is the sign someone wants to learn. The first questions ask what it would look like if the devil had set himself up as God. Paul calls the god of this world the devil, Yhwh claims that same place, and the talk treats the two as one person rather than a contradiction in the text. Yhwh barred the tree of life, cursed humans, gave a law they could not fulfill, and the people who left Egypt died in the desert for forty years after a promise of a land about six days' walk away.

Yhwh is described as a physical person who ate, sat, and met Moses face to face. If that Yhwh is Jesus, then Jesus is the source of orders the talk treats as evil, including selling daughters, and He is also the one who laments the killing of the prophets. Genesis 3:5 and Genesis 3:22 are read as Yhwh confirming the snake, Yhwh still has Moses raise a bronze snake that heals, and Jesus says to be wise as serpents, while the text never calls the Eden snake Satan, Revelation 12:9 included. The devil knowing Moses' unmarked grave is senseless if Yhwh knows everything, and plain to him if Yhwh is the devil.

Revelation 5 is a contract that moves humanity from one party to another, and Revelation 11:15 says the kingdom of the world has become the Kingdom of our Lord and of His Messiah. He asks why Yhwh never mentioned that contract, why the temptation offers Jesus what He came for, and why Jesus can talk about His Father constantly without once saying the Father is Yhwh. Exodus 3:14, on his reading, is "I will be who I will be," and a Father unknown to people whose whole public life was Yhwh cannot be Yhwh. You come to resemble the one you serve, two lords cannot both be served, and the close is a prayer to Abba plus questions for reading what Jesus said in the Gospel of John.
